If I develop epilepsy, why do the seizures need to be treated?

Seizures can be harmful in many ways. First, you can injure yourself by falling during a seizure. If you are doing something potentially dangerous, like swimming, operating dangerous machinery, or driving, a loss of consciousness or awareness can be very harmful. Seizures can also interfere with thinking, memory, or behavior and that can be harmful. All of these can be avoided if the seizures are stopped by treatment. Finally, although rare, people can die during seizures.
