Can surgery cure my epilepsy?

If seizures remain despite the best medical therapy, an evaluation for possible surgical treatment is indicated. Individuals with seizures due to TBI are often not good candidates for surgery because they have fairly extensive areas of injury, have already had surgery, and may have seizures that are coming from multiple areas of brain. In order for surgery to be successful, your doctor needs to localize where the seizures are coming from and determine that removing that area is safe. There are few Epilepsy Centers within the VA Medical Centers that are able to perform the specialized diagnostic evaluation necessary for epilepsy surgery, and if needed the tailored brain resection. Those centers include: Madison, WI, San Francisco, CA, and San Antonio, TX.
