Medical Content Specialist Position Opening
With an active clinician and researcher membership of 3000 and a core purpose of promoting research and education for professional dedicated to the prevention, treatment and cure of epilepsy, AES has established itself as an exemplary ACCME accredited provider of CME education. To maintain its position of serving the needs of the membership and the greater epilepsy care community, AES has an active role in assessing the educational needs of it members and setting the education agenda. The 2007 revision of the ACCME Criteria for Accreditation also mandates that educational interventions must be based upon resolution of the knowledge/practice gaps and barriers to change. Given the limited amount of time that AES membership leadership has, the AES Board of Directors has authorized the Council on Education to seek a half-time epilepsy content expert to serve staff as a Medical Content Specialist.
The candidate will have the following credentials and competencies
o M.D., Ph.D., Pharm D.,or graduate degree with significant experience in epilepsy treatment.
o Minimum of ten years of post-graduate experience in the field of neurology,
o Working knowledge of epilepsy.
o Knowledge of FDA, AMA, ACCME and OIG guidelines,
o Excellent literature evaluation skills, written and verbal communication skills,
o A high level of planning and organizational skills and strong interpersonal skills,
o Strong critical and independent thinking and team working skills,
o Proficiency in computer operation,
o Skilled in conflict resolution,
o Flexible & adaptable to meet organizational needs,
o Ability to work independently and as part of a team,
o Ability to identify and analyze complex problems and recommend actions,
o Ability to influence and negotiate with internal and external customers,
o Travel to meetings, including AES Annual Meeting, AES Committee Meetings and other professional society meetings as warranted
The Medical Content Specialist will report to the AES Executive Director and work with the Director of Education and the Education Team to perform the following functions:
o Reviews, consolidates and summarizes needs from evaluation and outcome assessment data
o Assists with the construction of content related objectives and outcomes statements
o Recommends educational program direction and interventions from diverse activity outcomes
o Partners with AES to leverage current medical information to assist staff and volunteer leadership in making informed decisions about appropriate educational activities and delivery methods
o Critically evaluates AES and organization programs to advise staff on the best use of AES investment of educational resources.
o Provides content advice to staff, key volunteers, board and the Council on Education
o Evaluates CME programming content on a regular basis for fulfillment of established educational mission and identified membership needs.
o Participates in identifying new educational opportunities and advise on a preferred delivery method
o Assists staff with identifying additional funding sources and assists staff with tailoring needs statements to fit requirements.
o Works with staff to support committees, such as Council on Education, Research, Advocacy and Practice
o Authors new material, edits/revises existing material and contributes to the maintenance of the content of the AES web site
o Keeps up to date with scientific literature to help ascertain continuing informational needs of membership
