The committee's major role is to select the annual awardees from the nominations submitted. This involves meeting in the late summer/early fall to evaluate the award nominations and making a selection for the Epilepsy Research Awards - Basic Scientist and Clinical Investigator.

Responsibilities:
The committee is also responsible for the Distinguished Achievement Awards. This includes selecting annual winners of three AES Awards (William G. Lennox Award, J. Kiffin Penry Excellence in Epilepsy Care Award, and the AES Service Award) and nominating members for two international awards (Ambassador for Epilepsy Award and Award for Social Accomplishment) presented every other year.
